“I don’t really practice writing any more — not consciously anyway.”
I’ve been writing daily for about 15 years now. Within the last couple of years I’ve re-committed to improving my understanding of the mechanics of the science of writing and my ever-incomplete ‘mastery’ of the art of writing. Two books I’ve found particularly helpful in this context are:
- Strunk and White’s The Elements of Style; and
- Zinsser’s On Writing Well.
In my opinion, both of these texts are worth reading many times over; they can serve as useful reminders of how to get back to writing well when we start to go astray with our words.
Two books I’m planning on reading at some point are:
- Klinkenborg’s Several Short Sentences About Writing; and
- King’s On Writing.
Have you read any of these four books, Dolly? If so, what are your thoughts on them?
Cheers :)
