Thank you, Carla, for raising this question. I have two thoughts here.
First, it seems to me that you’re right to imply that this kind of post is likely to attract certain kinds of readers over others (such as fellow writers who spend time thinking about how they do and do not want to be perceived by others).
Second, I recently decided to expand the topics about which I write here on Medium. Most significantly, I’ve elected to start writing much more personal, intimate, and vulnerable pieces about my own experiences, hopes, struggles, and worries. Essentially, I’ve committed to sharing more of myself, my real self, with the online world. In this context, I feel an obligation — to myself and to my readers — to be more transparent and honest in my writing. For me, this means, for one, not publishing clickbait pieces or articles that are exclusively or primarily intended to generate ‘cheap’ engagement. Instead, I’m trying to publish quality stories with the potential to really resonate with people. To that extent, I hope the issues I discussed in this piece matter to my readers.
