Thanks for sharing your experience, Andrew. Your shot of Edinburgh is gorgeous—super crisp. I, too, was a bit hesitant to sell my photos, so I started by having them professionally printed and mounted and then giving them away as Christmas gifts to my family members and girlfriend. Once I a) learned how to properly prepare them for printing b) saw how they turned out as physical prints and c) saw the joy they brought to the people to whom I gave them, I felt confident to start selling them. I’ve sold only one or two at this point, but that’s because I no longer promote my work—not because I’m nervous about selling it. Have you given your photos away as gifts yet? It might be a great way to bring some happiness to those you care about and boost your own confidence in the process. Also, try to keep in mind that we photographers are far more critical of our work and that of others than is the average person. Most people don’t have an eye for photography—they know what they like and don’t like, but they don’t understand why either way. If people are asking to buy your photos from you, I suggest taking that as clear evidence that you deserve to be paid for your creations. Cheers!
