Thanks very much for saying so, Mitch! I appreciate it.

I read the piece to which you linked and this is what stood out to me most:

“[W]hen you seek to improve your craft, do so deliberately. Critically examine your work — [as well as] the work of the greats — to look for elements that work well and those that don’t.”

Critical examination of one’s own writing and of the writing of one’s favourite authors is, indeed, essential to refining one’s writing abilities. And, as you’ve rightly pointed out, deliberate and thoughtful efforts to work on one’s craft are infinitely more valuable than pursuing generic and imprecise “tactics” like writing 500 words every day.
