Thanks very much for your comment, Barry. I agree with everything you’ve said. Those who find this relatively short article interesting should indeed pick up and engage with Zinsser’s text in its entirety. I especially like how you summed up one of the essential takeaway points of the book:

“Ultimately, acting on good writing advice demands a certain habit of mind. At its heart is ego management. Work your way down the list, and you’ll see that every point calls for the writer to challenge what s/he writes in terms of self-admiration. Learning to ‘curb your enthusiasm’ for what you’ve put on the screen is the key.”
