The one bit with which I disagree is the suggestion that writing and editing should be separated from each other, with the latter being undertaken only after the former has been completed. I don’t believe there is one right answer to the question, “Should you edit your writing in real time?” I believe it depends on each person’s unique thinking style. I’ve always edited my writing in real time, and I consider that to be one of my strengths as a writer. Having said that, it’s doubtless true that many writers would benefit from embracing the type of free-flowing writing you advocate.
