Your comment contains the very point that I had implicitly assumed but failed to explicitly express: excessive use of adjectives and adverbs is, by definition, unnecessary and, as you suggest, often counter-productive. I agree that it’s easy to overdo it, as it were, when it comes to the use of adjectives and adverbs; my intention was certainly not to suggest that every sentence should be stuffed with erroneous descriptions of every last detail. Brevity is quite useful at times, no question. My point is that, in general, many people’s writing would improve were it to reflect a commitment to (intelligently) using adjectives and adverbs in greater numbers.
