“Writing is hard.”

It’s often difficult to write well — to write intelligible, engaging, and insightful content that connects with our readers — because effective writing requires, amongst other things, the exercise of clear, organized, and systematic thinking. Writing is the externalization of thinking. When we struggle to make sense of our thoughts — as when you found it challenging, like we all do from time to time, to bring together ideas that are likely better kept separate from each other — we can’t help struggling to make sense of our writing.

Of course, clear thinking is only one aspect of productive writing. We also have to contend with everything else that’s required for effectively putting words to paper or screen (such as trying to find time to write whilst juggling other responsibilities). Writing is indeed hard to do well, but, as my father says, “Anything worth doing is worth doing right!”

Keep at it, Shelly! If I can help in any way, just let me know :)
